About “the position” at Ummeed: The Ummeed Mental Health Team works with families using the narrative approach. The mental health team began using narrative practices with children and families in 2006. Narrative therapy is a respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling which centers people as the experts in their own lives. It views problems as separate from people and assumes people have many skills, beliefs, values, and abilities that will allow them to reduce the influence of problems in their lives. (www.narrativetherapyindia.com). The team works collaboratively with a child’s caregivers to address his/her needs. Counselling sessions are usually individual child, parent(s), and parent-child or family meetings. Group counselling sessions are also conducted when feasible.
Responsibilities and Duties
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual counselling sessions with parents and children with or at risk of developmental disabilities
  • Conduct family meetings
  • Conduct group counselling sessions with children, parents and siblings of children with or at risk of developmental disabilities
  • Documentation of sessions
  • Assist in short term and long term training programs that the team conducts

Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Psychology/Counseling

Essentials Skills Required:

  • Must have good written and communications skills
  • Must be open to supervision
  • Must be comfortable to work within and across different teams
  • Prior experience of working with children and families will be an advantage

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: ₹300,000.00 to ₹360,000.00 /year
